Vermillion Institute - Home | Facebook

Travel To My Home Town

I grew up in Hayesville, Ohio.  Just about an hour between the cities of Cleveland and Columbus.  My parent's home was about half a mile from the Elementary School. Both of my parents attended this school and both of them graduated from it also.

I use to walk to school everyday with the older neighbor kids.  Actually, walking/running to keep up would be more accurate. On our way I always passed this building, which I thought was creepy and absolutely haunted, everyday.  But, common on, when your 6 or 7, who doesn't think something like this would be creepy?  Anyway, the creepy, haunted building had an official name of The Old Vermillion Institute, but we liked to just call it the "old academy".

Our town had the usual quirky things to add to their  history.  Hayesville, OH - Sinking VW Bug

Such as the half-buried VW Beetle car. I never knew the true story of why it was buried.  But, I have heard many, many ghost stories of why they did it.  You know it's kinda funny!! But, I never cared at all about it, until I've gotten older.  And now, I've always wondered the significance of it.

The town hasn't changed drastically over time.  But, there are some new additions like a donut shop and a sandwich shop that has bulk items.

Travel Tuesday

Today is Travel Tuesday!!

Who doesn't just love to travel??  Okay, okay maybe it is just me.  Honestly, I could fly clear across the continent or drive 14 hours or even stay locally and see what our area has to offer.  My point is, there is always someplace to go, somethings to see and people to meet.  So. . . . today I am focusing on our hometown town of Lindale in East Texas.  Did you know that this is where Miranda Lambert is from?  If your like me, when our real estate agent told me, with such pride in her voice, I smiled and nodded my head.  But, then later I looked up who she is.  Sorry Miranda, I'm totally not into country.  Anyhow, she has a store called the Pink Pistol.  It's part of the Texas Music City restaurant and entertainment center.  The store is super cute!!! But, also the decorations around the store are just as impressive.  Just take a look at this, a little sneak peak for YOU guys.  Here's her link for your convenience Pink Pistol

Her parents own a wine company called Red 55 which is located inside of the Pink Pistol store

In addition, to having wine they also have a wonderful candle line.  One of my girlfriends gave me a candle as a gift and I loved, loved the smell of it.  And if you want you can buy yourself a t-shirt or also take back some coffee on your way home.

So. . . . . once you've had your fill of shopping, wine tasting and then having a wonderful lunch at the restaurant you should go and visit the antique store on Main Street.

Their store has some really cute items. Some things in the store are not antiques, and I'm great with that.
Every vendor has a special niche for certain items.  From candles, to clothes, to paint to tools needed to create a certain look and texture.   I know that when I go in there to shop, I need to go to certain booths first and then make a full loop around.

And lastly, if you want some home grown produce head right down the street to the nursery/produce shop.  They will never disappoint you on their melons or even if you need to pick up a few green tomatoes to fry for your evening  meal.

Well that's all for your Travel Tuesday fun day!!

Flower/Power/Wower

Well, what day is it?  It's game day??

Yes, it's game day.  But, I'm choosing to share with you my flowers that I finished attaching to the wall.

Here is a close up of the left side of this dresser and how close that I put it to the dresser.  I have loved doing this project.  The flowers are so fun individually, but when you glue them all together, they look great.  I did show in a previous post how to make these flowers.

To make them and to make them look like they are 3D, you have to first scrunch them up and then unscrunch them and start layering them on top of each other.  And then glue them together.  To get the entire fullness of the flower, try hard to not flatten them out.  And lastly, hold the put together flower by the back and almost make a cup shape out of them.

So, do you want to see the finished result of the flowers? I know it looks a little dark.  But, there is such an angle from the ceiling and it's naturally dark here anyway.  However, here it is . . . . . . . .

I am still contemplating whether I should add a few more flowers.  It seems like enough when you look at the wall in person.  But, on here, it looks a little chintzy.  For now, I am going to leave it.

Have a great weekend!!  Do something fun, learn something and rest.

Dust them Bears off

Happy Day Friends!!

Today I was rearranging some of my teddy bears and this one just struck me in the heart with so many mixed emotions.  I'm  sure you've had that feeling before, right? I'm sure that I am not the only one you feels like that.  Anyway, you see this teddy bear was made especially for me by Becca Bolen in Hayesville, Ohio many, many years ago.

Here they are all dusted off and bows semi-tied.

But what I love about them, is that the mom teddy bear is wearing a soft yellow dress that was worn by me when I was a little girl.  My mom had her good friend Becca make it for me after Amanda turned one year old.   I still keep them out and sitting on a shelf in my laundry room.
